As part of its continuing commitment to engage a broad spectrum of audiences in new and creative ways, the Democratic National Convention Committee has announced that a record number of blogs have been credentialed as members of the media for the 2008 Democratic National Convention at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo. These blogs will help ensure that communities across the country are connected to the Convention through the eyes and ears of a growing, diverse group of online voices. We'd like to introduce you here to just some of bloggers who speak daily to the Hispanic community and will be sharing their perspectives from Denver come August.

VivirLatino

Name: Maegan "la Mamita Mala" Ortiz, Estevan Montemayor
Location: NYC, California
Language: English, Spanglish
Core Issues: Latino politics

“VivirLatino wants to bring the Latino community inside the Democratic National Convention, so that they can see what Democracy looks like and decide how to get involved in a way that best serves them as individuals and as a larger community. VivirLatino is extremely excited to have an inside look and hopes to provide an alternative, critical analysis that serves the Latino population in the U.S.”

USAmérica Vota'08

Name: Carlos Hernández
Location: Madrid, Spain
Language: Spanish
Core Issues: Daily overview of the presidential campaign, started jan. 07

"I am willing to take my coffee mug to the Pepsi Center, sit along a table with a sign that says: "Spanish is spoken" and blog like a mad man during four days.  The main objective is clear:  make sure that every Spanish-speaking person experiences this historic event as if he/she would be physically present on the steps.  This will mean four days of blogs, photos, videos, interviews… and lots of work."

Yanqui Mike Buenos Aires Argentina

Name: Yanqui Mike Skowronek
Location: Buenos Aires Argentina
Language: Almost completely in English but we have plans for more Spanish during the Convention
Core Issues: International politics, expat issues, all things Buenos Aires

"The challenge of being the only State Blogger representing Democrats in more than one nation state is something that will no doubt keep me on my toes!  My perspective as a mid-westerner and a resident of South America will certainly skew my results.  However, readers all over the world can rest assured that my 5 years of living outside the US has given me a sharp awareness of issues that affect US citizens living abroad.  I'll bring that awareness to bear while focusing on the developments and the process which is our convention.  Being an actual seated member of a state delegation puts me closer to the action more often than members of the established media; people are going to want to see something special from us... I hope to give that to them."

HispanicTips.com

Core Issues: National Hispanic News - Comprehensive, Relevant and Useful

"I have no idea what covering the DNC will be like, never having attended such an event. However, it is with much anticipation that I embrace this opportunity to represent not only my readers but Hispanics y Latinos in general as well as new media/blogs like HispanicTips.com. I expect the unexpected and can't wait to see how it all unfolds."
